Innovation
Mineral exploration is a difficult and complex undertaking. The odds of a mineral exploration program ultimately leading to an operating mine are about one in one thousand. To increase these odds, the prospecting and mineral exploration industry have developed, adopted and adapted a number of innovative tools and techniques over the last century.
In Canada, explorers will face additional challenges associated with identifying, delimiting and delineating mineral deposits in more difficult environments, including at depth and under cover, as well as in northern and remote regions. To support industry innovation and improved discovery performance, PDAC organizes the world’s largest annual mineral industry convention, which offers a robust array of technical sessions and short courses. In addition, PDAC is working in partnership with the Canada Mining Innovation Council’s Exploration Industry Consortium to identify how to improve industry performance through innovation.
