The Mary‑Claire Ward Geoscience Award was created to honour the memory of Mary-Claire Ward who passed away in 2004. Ms. Ward was a former chair of the PDAC’s Geoscience committee, Chairman of Watts Griffis McOuat Ltd., and a Past President of the Geological Association of Canada. She was a passionate advocate for the geosciences in Canada.

Comprising $5,000 and a certificate, the award is given annually to encourage and support a full-time, graduate student in Canada whose thesis is likely to increase our knowledge of the geological history of Canada through mapping.

PDAC is pleased to announce that Freeport-McMoRan has come on board to sponsor and provide valuable funding to help subsidize the cost of accommodations for students attending PDAC 2025 Convention. Applications for funding are open and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

PDAC is pleased to support the Dr. Donald M. Leishman Convention Experience that provides financial support for five students to attend the PDAC 2024 Convention and exposes them to networking and learning opportunities with industry professionals. 

Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a geoscience or mining related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution and have never attended the annual PDAC Convention.

Application deadline: December 14, 2024.
